Hmmm … it never occurred to me

that you would have to read the previous comments in order to post your pennant guesses. But, oh well. As I said yesterday, thinking isn’t my best thing. Keep on guessing; it’s great to have comments! My name is Debbi, and I’m a comment slut.

Okay, it’s been six weeks since the great South Beachy-beach experiment began. As both of you regular readers know, I’ve had some travel-related challenges – and, to be honest, some at-home ones as well – but as of this morning’s weekly weigh-in I’ve managed to maintain that Month One five-pound loss. I’m very encouraged. However, I keep feeling like I have to go back and do two more weeks of Phase One perfectly every time I stray from the plan. Frankly, it probably wouldn’t hurt to do that.

And then I look at my calendar. How realistic is it, really, to think I can stick with Phase One during the time our guests are here? Or at my granddaughter’s first birthday party? Or while I’m waiting for my dad to get through a long and risky surgical procedure?

Time to cut myself some slack. It looks like if I mostly stick with the plan, I can at least maintain. This is new territory for me. And I read something last night in a magazine (it was either Health or Real Simple) that it can be a good idea to lose five and then maintain it for a month before losing the next five. Whether that’s true or not is, I guess, up to the individual.

I can only say that, considering what’s been going on in my life (and what’s to come), staying the same weight feels pretty darned good.

Today is Day One of my pre-travel “transfer all my CDs to iTunes and then to the iPod” project. I’m in the “Bs” right now. Knowing me, I’ll do all this work and then forget to pack the iPod. Heh.

And I’m not going to get very far into the project today, because it’s also “go to Sam’s Club to stock up for the Fourth of July” day. My husband is out of town for a few days; this is the first time since he’s retired that I’m making this trip solo. Hallelujah! He’s the kind of shopper who sticks to the list and wants to get in and out of the store as quickly as possible. Me? Not so much.

I hope you all enjoy your day as much as I’m going to enjoy mine.

I guess I'll skip guessing on the pendants since everyone else seems to have agreed. I never would have gotten them all - not even sure what OSU is...I would have gotten WVU and the Colts though - 2 out of 5 isn't SO bad is it?

Congrats on maintaining your weight during a stressful time. Oh that I could say the same, but quite the opposite for me. Just got a contract on my condo after 7 months on the (horrible) market. Now I have to find a place to live. Lots of stress = lots of eating = lots o' weight... :-(

Hope you enjoyed Sam's Club. I always enjoy just browsing through seeing what's new at a store like that. Inevitably, that turns out to be pretty expensive though.

Congrats on the 5 pounds & keeping it off! I think it's a fine idea to lose, maintain, lose, maintain. And, ahem, the fewer carbs the older we get seems to be what works. I'm *so* looking forward to lowering my carb intake in the next few years--not. (I'll be 40 in 1 year and 10 months, not that I'm counting down to d-day or anything.)

My brain officially boycots retaining new information, so I cannot recall what teams you support. But I'll vote for the Colts, at least, since I'm pretty sure I remember you rooting for Peyton. And I'm a Hoosier so I might have retained that info by default.

Update on the water: the circuit breaker tripped, either due to a power surge when the electricity came back on last night OR when lightning struck in the area. My neighbor's electric fence control box got hit in the same area. He was able to reset the circuit breaker for us and we have WATER! I think I'll go do a load of laundry. Heh.

Well. Well, well, well. Should this morning's scale number be divided between two weeks, or did all of it happen this past week? It's an easy number to divide, and I've been consistent for two weeks, so it should probably be split, doncha think?

That means I lost three pounds for each of the last two weeks. SIX pounds total. Excuse me, I mean
SIX!!!!!! I'm going to do everything I can to stay on track while I'm gone this week. There's little more I can promise. I'm really motivated to keep it up. The dumbbells are packed (and my luggage weighs a ton!), I'm taking a thermos of water in the car and I know where are the rest stops are between here and Nashville. I think I'll walk a bit at each of them, then walk again when I arrive at my destination. Hope to get a total of 80 minutes done by the end of the day. SIX!!!!!!

Kitten with a Whiplash, who left two comments and it was the second (which had nothing to do with the contest) which won the prize. Congratulations, and since the Kitten was the only commenter who expressed any interest in actually winning it, I'm so glad the Universe took care of it. Heh.

What a weekend! But first, how was yours? I hope you did some fun stuff and got some necessary stuff done, as well. It's all about balance.

Saturday was our fun day (but we had to drive, drive, drive to get there and then drive, drive, drive home again, all in one day, boy was I tired).
