Yes, Pepsi is – for a limited time only! – rolling out a soft drink made with Real Sugar instead of Real High Fructose Corn Syrup.
They don't mention the HFCS in the commercial. I just threw that in there.
I'm not sure I get it. Are they implying that real sugar is any better for your teeth or energy or insulin levels than HFCS? Because if you talk to the HFCS people, they'll tell you it works in our bodies just like sugar does.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this rant. I just feel like ranting about it. Until we start treating soft drinks like treats* instead of beverages, we're going to be dealing with childhood obesity and tooth decay no matter how the damned stuff is sweetened. So there.
*When I was a child, the only time we were allowed to have soda (we called it "pop") was:
- when we had a babysitter (those times were rare)
- when we ate out at an A&W Root Beer (the child-sized, nickel portion was in a teeny-tiny mug about three inches tall)

We called it "pop" too - and it was a rare treat. The two places I most often got pop as a kid was at the "filling station"/"garage" (that's gas station and car repair shop for the younger ones among us) or at the laundromat. All of them came in bottles not cans.
And I remember sticking my hand deep into the icy water at the garage to dig out a "Kickapoo Joy Juice" (predecessor of Mt. Dew). Or of begging my Grandmother for a dime to buy a grape ne-hi at the laundromat - believe it or not, there wasn't always a dime to spare for such things.
Good times...
I didn't realize that's what the "Throwback" meant. I've heard there are a lot of people who love the-real sugar Coke you can get in other countries and in some areas of this country during Passover. People covet the stuff. Supposedly the flavor is better and it's more satisfying.
